CalPoly Annual Beef Cattle Field Day
The Annual Cal Poly Beef Field Day and Trade Show will take place October 6th and 7th at Cal Poly’s Beef Center. The Field Day is co-sponsored by Cal Poly, California Beef Cattle Improvement Association, and the California Cattlemen’s Association. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the program starting at 8:30 a.m. The theme of this year’s program will be beef cattle management in tough times. Speakers will focus attention on market forecasts, cow/calf nutrition during drought conditions and adding value to calves.

The morning presentations will discuss how producers can be profitable during these challenging times. Presenters include Dr. Larry Corah, Certified Angus Beef; John Nalivka, Sterling Marketing, Inc.; Dr. Craig Jones, Boehringer Ingelheim; Dr. John Evans, CDFA. In the afternoon session, participants will be able to choose from workshops on body condition scoring, vaccination protocols and proper handling of biologicals and latest advances in animal ID.

The field day also includes a commercial trade show, refreshments, lunch and a “bull session”, which gives buyers and consignors time to preview bulls up for auction at the Tested Bull Sale Oct. 7th. On the evening of Oct. 6th, at 7 p.m. the annual barbecue will be at Cal Poly new Beef Center and an auction benefiting the Collegiate Cattlemen’s Club and the Cal Poly Livestock Judging Team.

The 51st Annual Cal Poly All-Breed Performance Tested Bull Sale is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the new Beef Center.
